Museum of the Devon wool textiles industry in an 18thC woollen mill. Working demonstrations of traditional textile machinery. Waterwheel, steam engines, riverside walks and mill shop selling goods produced in the mill. Winner of c1991 Steam Heritage Award and Dorothea Award for conservation. Winner of c1992 Museum of the Year Award - category 'Best Museum of Industrial and Social History'. Sandford award winner 2002. Waterside restaurant and tea room, and gift gallery. Floor four exhibition gallery and Culm Valley Millennium Screen. It was not until extra power was needed, when the factory changed to worsted production and new combing machinery was installed in 1865, that it was decided to use steam power at Coldharbour Mill. Two 18 kW (25 hp) beam engines were installed to supplement the water power. In 1910 a new, more powerful steam engine replaced the existing steam plant. This was the Pollit & Wigzell engine, which together with the water wheel supplied all the factory's need's until its closure.
