Since opening in 1996 Tina Bricknell Webb has let her cooking be determined by what grows around her. The eight luxuriously appointed rooms enchanting wildlife cookery school and stunning 130 acre Estate make Percy s a rare find in the Westcountry. This romantic getaway luxuriously cocooned between Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor has won steady national acclaim for it s exceptionally fresh local organic food. In February 2005 Percy's won the Best Sunday Lunch category at the Observer Food Monthly's annual awards and it also caters for customers with special dietary requirements especially those who are wheat free gluten free and dairy free. From Roe deer and racehorses to Jacob lamb and dragonflies the 130 acre Estate is packed with stunning wildlife that will amaze and fascinate. With a black labrador as an escort you can walk till your heart's content all the time surrounded by sweeping and majestic views of the neighbouring moorland. The dramatic North Cornwall coastline is no more than a thity minute drive away. The accommodation is clean luxurious and equipped with a range of stylish creature comforts. Rooms come with invigorating power showers DVD players and wide screen televisions whilst fresh tea and coffee and home made Lavender shortbread will soon make your journey a distant memory. The restaurant uses only the finest local organic ingredients. Many including lamb pork venison eggs vegetables and herbs go directly from our own organic land to help create the unfussy and mouthwatering food that is cooked with the customer and not the guides in mind. In 2002 Giles Coren of the Saturday Times rewarded the food with an unprecedented 9 10. Twelve months later the RAC followed suit giving the cooking four out of a possible five dining awards whilst Johansens and the Soil Association both made Percy's their Restaurant of the Year. Fish all bid for at auction by the Chef s husband and a bespoke breed of lamb are specialities at Percy's. The Chocolate Prune Hazelnut Armagnac Tart served with our smooth and sultry cinnamon ice cream is quite simply as good as it gets. The hotel has it s own helicopter landing pad and is well positioned between Newquay Airport which connects directly very reasonably with Stanstead and Exeter s slightly closer International Airport which is now the home of FlyBe. Trains from London Paddington to Exeter St. Davids are swift and the earlier you book the cheaper it becomes. We have negotiated very attractive rates for car rental here and vehicles can be picked up directly from the station. Plymouth is the next closest mainline station.
Incredible Victorian walled garden designed for the exotics of yesteryear, currently being restored for the exotics of today. One acre garden boasting features not included in gardens many, many times its size. State of the art Victorian greenhouses in teak. Planting reflects passionate interest in Fuchsias and exotics interspersed with herbaceous plants. Covered exhibition area detailing extensive history. Guided group tours, also talks to clubs by appointment. The garden formed part of a large country estate and contains a number of unique features which show Victorian horticultural ingenuity and workmanship at its very best. Work began around 1883 and by the time it was completed Winsford could boast over 500 linear feet of state-of-the-art greenhouses. The original garden owner's family can be traced back to the Cornish artist Henry Bone (1755-1834), through the Great Victorian Big Game hunter Capt. F. C. Selous, friends of whom include US President Theodore Roosevelt.
